The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing future games, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.
"It's a unique game where a young woman harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Fractured Mind
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with unique fears and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.
Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips show the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.
A World of Personal Dread
"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual."
The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. While exploring, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.
Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.
Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."
After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one remaining might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
