Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Tension on the Manager

Spurs supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight home loss of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his box.

He came out to handle a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to the keeper once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions truly angered the manager.

"I heard some of our supporters apparently booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane stated about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Former Premier League keeper Hart remarked that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he is a real figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game

Italian international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

He said after the match that he had to take the feedback.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I take accountability for that," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said being booed "comes with football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to remain more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse results. Today is a poor loss and it's tough to accept."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant top division goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to make the correct connection and place it on target. I had a good feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's error dominated headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.

This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the close of the year.

Just a single of those wins have occurred since Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to work against you too – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.

"This result puts us in a place where we have suffered another match. Every game has a unique story, today we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to learn."

Spurs have lost four consecutive at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their poorest averages on record in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
